Blaine & Lindsay Hickman

Once seriously doubting whether he could remain a faithful member of the LDS Church and ever marry because of his personal struggle with same-sex attraction, Blaine later found both to be possible. Through faith, understanding, and patience, Lindsay gained the confidence to know that “with God, nothing is impossible.” Eight years later, Blaine and Lindsay remain happily married and have two lively children. Blaine is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working in inpatient psychiatry and private practice working with various forms of mental illness as well as unwanted same-sex attraction and marriage issues. Lindsay graduated with a Bachelors of Integrated Studies from Weber State University and teaches vocal lessons.

Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing this with the world. You give me hope that in all of our trials, no matter what they may be, that God has a plan for us. It is all meant for our good and growth, to become closer to Heavenly Father, the Savior, and make that journey with the guidance of the Holy Ghost.

I wept as I relived my own feelings and story through yours. Thank you, Lindsay and Blaine, for adding yet another Voice to the chorus, proclaiming that it is possible to find joy in living the gospel and in keeping covenants all while still acknowledging and embracing our same-gender attractions.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and testimonies. It is wonderful to see how you turned your trial into a strength that draws you closer to Heavenly Father. I also enjoyed learning your description and feelings on your first touch or kiss, it is hard for regular people to comprehend this, yet it is real and it is sad to hear about your struggles and loneliness during so many years before you accepted yourself for who you are, a child of God.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. You have a beautiful family and I am in awe of your strength and faith. Although I do not have same gender attraction, I feed edified having watched your story. Thank you again. Blaine, you are awesome. Your family is awesome. If my son ever struggles with this, I hope I can be as supportive and loving as they have been.

Thank you for your words. I have a brother that has recently come to us about same sex attractions and he is married to his wife of 3 years, but they have been together since high school. I myself have two boys and my oldest looks very much up to his uncle. My question to you both is how do you talk to your children about these thoughts, or when is a good time to start talking to your kids about these thoughts? If my brother and his wife are able to grow together like you have what are some pieces of advise you can give them once they have kids? Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing this. It gives me hope for a future where I am faithful, notwithstanding the same-gender attraction I deal with. I am especially grateful for both of you, Blaine for sharing the many experiences I can relate with, and Lindsay for the faith you show in God and His plan. I just came home a little early from my mission and have been going passing through some really dark days, but this for me is a bright light of hope. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing this heartfelt story. I experience SSA and I often fret over how I could actually have a happy or intimate temple marriage. You show that marriage is so much more than what the world views it. You helped me see that God has a plan for all of us. It was so clear how much you loved eachother. It is a strong relationship that the two of you share.
