Stu Back

Stu grew up in American Fork, Utah, and was raised in the LDS church. Currently studying English Composition at the University of Utah, he wants to someday work in the medical field. Stuís favorite activities include hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and almost anything else done outdoors. His trials have led him to view life as an adventure, and he loves sharing it with his friends and family. Stu believes the Atonement is real and applies to his life every day. He knows that prayer and a relationship with his Heavenly Father has been critical to his happiness.

I think that this is one of THE most powerful of all of the Voices of Hope videos produced to date. Your gut-wrenching authenticity about the darkest moments in your life augmented by the absolute joy that radiates from you in the end -- it was all just spellbinding. Thanks for your courage and compassion to share as much of your story as you did. On behalf of everyone who knows and loves you as well as everyone whoever WILL know and love you, words can't describe how grateful we are that your efforts to take your own life were thwarted in time. The world would have been a drearier place without you in it, for sure.

What a beautiful video. You were so blessed to have loving and caring church leaders to help you with your struggles. I am a mom of a daughter with SSA. When our Bishop found out, the only thing he told us is that she wasn't welcome in his home. That was 15 years ago. She has since left the church...but I will never, ever give up on her. Because of what she has gone through I have learned about myself and am a better person. I truly understand "unconditional love". I have hope that someday she might return. If not in this life, in the next. Thank you for sharing your powerful story.

Stu, thank you for sharing your story. Hearing it tonight was insightful and inspiring. When you spoke about the trials and burdens you have to bear being a harbinger for your greatest blessings, was powerful. I felt like you were speaking directly to me. And I really needed to hear that tonight! When we were in high school, I always appreciated your genuine kindness and your spirit that would, and continues to, radiate to all those around you. Although I haven't seen you in years, I am grateful you are still here, making the world a better place one day at a time.

Stu, thank you for sharing your testimony about the love of God, and the strength we all can get from the Gospel. It is my pray that no matter who difficult live is in our future we always remember those comfort feelings, that testify about the JOY heavenly father is talking in the scripture. It is my pray that we don't get confuse with the "joy" but the joy that comes with peace of mine, and doing what is right.
